DECORAH, Iowa (1/20/25) – Tyler Bruening struck Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series gold this past weekend with a $12,000 triumph in Friday’s Super Bowl of Racing opener at Golden Isles Speedway aboard his Skyline Motorsports / Bruening Rock Products / VG Performance No. 16 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.
The thrilling victory marked Bruening’s first win with a national touring series, a milestone that came after he set a new track record at the 4/10-mile clay oval, surpassing the previous mark held by Kyle Larson.
“I can’t describe it,” Bruening said. “It’s the hardest thing I have ever done. Those guys [Wilson and Overton] got by me. We had a good hot rod all night; everything was a first for me tonight. I set a new track record; I have never done that before. I won a heat against some of the best in the business. I drove my butt off in the feature. My emotions are high; I don’t know what to say. I am on the verge of just breaking down here. Oh man, I can’t tell you how hard it’s been. The ups and downs, how difficult this sport is, and how good everybody really is.”
Skyline Motorsports and Tyler Bruening kicked off the 2025 season at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) this past week with the annual Super Bowl of Racing.
With 44 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries roaming the pit area, Bruening lowered Kyle Larson's track record in qualifying with a lap of 14.687-seconds and walked away with the victory in his heat race.
Starting from the pole in the $12,000-to-win feature, Tyler Bruening led the first six laps before Daulton Wilson surged past him. Undeterred, Bruening mounted a late charge, reclaiming the lead with just nine laps remaining and holding on to secure his first career national touring victory. He took the checkers 1.134 seconds ahead of Jonathan Davenport with Brandon Overton rounding out the podium.
“I am so blessed to wheel this hot rod here tonight,” Bruening exclaimed. “We’ve been through a lot. We have worked our butt off, and I couldn’t be prouder. My crew chief Zeb [Holksevick] deserves this. My mom, my sister, and my brother, watch me every night.”
Inclement weather and an unfavorable forecast forced track and series officials to cancel the final two rounds of the Super Bowl of Racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Bruening’s pursuit for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship kicks off this week with the sixth annual Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida. The action begins with a pair of $12,000-to-win preliminary races on Thursday and Friday, leading up to Saturday’s finale, where the winner will earn $20,000.
